Axel Void, US

Alexjandro Hugo Dorda Mevs known as Axel Void is a Spanish street artist, known for his often shocking and dark artworks that address psychological and social problems that are emphasised by his technique that is influenced by classical painting and drawing. Mixing acrylic and oil paint, dark colours and contrast dominate his visually intense artworks.

Axel Void, born by a Haitian mother and a Spanish father in Miami, moved to Spain at the age of three and in the late 1990s around the age of 13, he started painting graffiti. In his work, Void processes his multicultural roots and upbringing as well as his experiences from traveling. While many of these creations are equally dark in their very essence, sometimes even shocking, he does try to add fragments of everyday beauty that he finds in mundane moments. Adding lettering on top of his artworks, he plays with the symbiosis of word and image, while at the same time naming his pieces, giving the viewer an idea of what message might lie behind it. Void, who studied fine arts in Spain, now lives and works from Miami, Florida.
