17 Walls
17 Artworks
17 Global Goals
01 Common Future
About the project
17 Walls is founded by hART unlimited, started by Helle Rysholt and Mette Koudal. The purpose of the association is to work towards the establishment of 17 murals in Aarhus, which each illustrate one of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The idea for the project arose following the work with organising Aarhus Streetart Festival in 2017, 2018 and 2019. The ambition of 17 Walls was to put Aarhus on the map in regard to street art and not least to set a high bar for future public artworks in the city.
17 Walls interprets the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. With this project, we hope to actualise the SDGs and make them relevant and accessible to everybody. Free high quality art displayed in public creates a common frame of reference and identity, which hopefully will motivate towards working for a sustainable future.
We believe that art has the ability to inspire action in ways that words cannot and we know that art can challenge the status quo and be a source of change. As the SDGs are a global matter, it was natural to curate artists from all over the world, not just Aarhus or Denmark.
We want to extend our biggest gratitude towards all of the artists for their patience and willingness to travel far to contribute to 17 Walls. You have been dedicated to and engaged with the importance of the SDGs and the excitement of interpreting them together.
A huge thank you naturally also goes out to our sponsors for seeing the potential in our project.
We hope that 17 Walls is going to become the basis of many cosy and enlightening strolls around the city centre of Aarhus. Enjoy yourselves!
