“The white circle”
This mural represents a visual allegory connecting nature and sustainability within the context of affordable and clean energy. The circular shape symbolises unity, continuity, and the cycle of life, which are essential elements in nature and ecological balance. It also represents the need for a sustainable and renewable energy system that maintains this cycle without causing harm to nature.
The women in the mural, with their intertwined roots, symbolise interconnection and solidarity. The roots are a deep connection to Earth and nature and they represent the collaboration and codependence that is necessary to address global ecological challenges. The roots can be interpreted as a network of sustainable energy solutions that feed into each other, providing a stable foundation for society.
White, being the combination of all colours, represents unity and equality. In this context, it suggests the need for a collective effort to address environmental challenges, and that every individual, regardless of their background, play a crucial role in the transition towards sustainable energiy. Sky blue evokes tranquility, serenity, and hope. This background colour creates an atmosphere of calm and optimism, reinforcing the idea that a sustainable future is possible and desirable.
David de la Mano was born in Salamanca in 1975, where he graduated in Fine Arts before focusing on Public Art for his PhD at the University of Valencia.
From 1993 onward, de la Mano has worked extensively in urban public spaces and developed his trademark style during numerous international projects.
Relying predominantly on contrasts of black and white, his reductive and increasingly emblematic paintings centers around narrative and symbolic figuration.
David de la Mano is a contemporary artist known for his meticulous brushwork, knack for large scale, an almost systematic use of black and white, and his minimalist human silhouettes. With a background in sculpture, he focused his interest on public art, to which he has naturally and immediately integrated street art, becoming one of the most important artists in this discipline.
His aim is to transcribe his vision of the world around him, in the most personal and symbolic way possible. Between shadow and light, playing with shapes, contours and contrasts, David de la Mano gives birth to a world of perfect balance, where human beings and nature, always intrinsically linked, merge and then stand out, in perpetual motion.
David De la Mano has produced numerous walls and participated in projects in Spain, Norway, Italy, Taiwan, the United States, Poland, England, France, Finland, Tunisia, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Portugal, Holland, Germany, etc. He also exhibits his works in private homes and art galleries around the world.
