“Fra jord til bord”
Small actions towards sustainability like using a reusable bottle or washing dishes in cold water are good, but they are a mere drop in the bucket in the fast-paced world we live in. Capitalism has made us greedy and accustomed to always having access to anything. We have forgotten the cycles of nature.
We eat oranges all year round, we can have strawberries at any time of the year, and it becomes a false reality. In the past, an avocado was a rarity, which you could occasionally buy. Now it is a common ingredient in any sandwich in Northern Europe, and it shouldn't be like that.
"From farm to table" is intended to raise awareness about the concept of enjoying what we have close to us, enjoying seasonal products and as many local products as possible. Without a massive demand for products that comes from the other side of the world or that are from different seasons, we can make a big difference by becoming part of the natural cycle again.
Isaac Malakkai was born in Almería, in southern Spain. He is an illustrator and street artist.
Malakkai has been drawing as long as he can remember, but it was his encounter with graffiti in 1999 that triggered his decision to quit his engineering studies and focus on street art and painting.
“My first contact with spray cans was in late 1999 when I instantly fell in love with that unhealthy smell, but it was all colorful and attractive. Invitations to paint abroad started to come and with them new friends from all over the world.”
Malakkai is inspired and influenced by the earthy colors of the desert from his hometown, by surrealism and the delicacy of messy and dirty lines. There is always a touch of irony or melancholy in his pieces. He is very passionate about watercolours and the texture that spray cans can provide.
The female figure and surrealism are the main components in his artwork, together with a mix of bright and desaturated colors, his love for spray cans, the “moon” desert and rugged mountains in his hometown. Malakkai is always thoughtful and cares for details, and there’s a story behind every painting he does.
“I’ve been a part of the international street art scene for the last 15 years. Illustration and characters are my main passion always with irony and a background story”. Malakkai’s work can be seen in Lyon, Napoli, London, Djerba, Ciudad Juárez, China, Mexico, United States, Australia, Denmark, Germany, South Africa, Serbia, and Tunesia. “I feel extremely lucky to have visited so many places and who knows what is next?”
