“On our Way”
“There are many ways of going forward, but only one way of standing still. The mural is Telmomiel’s vision of partnerships for the goals. They wanted to focus on the future/new generations, so they portrayed children taking care of birds in this piece. Finding something common that fits the city or Aarhus, they picked birds to symbolise and illustrate mother nature.
The children all walk in the same direction; towards the future, and they are bringing nature with them. The title is about the start of this generation’s life cycle going in the right direction. It’s a long road but you must start somewhere. It also marks the beginning of the 17 Walls project.”
Telmomiel is a Dutch artistic duo composed of Telmo Pieper, born in Rotterdam, 1989 and Miel Krutzmann, born in Amsterdam, 1984.
Working together since 2012, Telmo and Miel both enjoy painting in realistic styles with loads of contrast in subjects.
“It is good to go back and forth on ideas and brainstorm together. When creating new ideas, you can inspire and push each other more. It’s like healthy competition in some way where we push each other to learn, be critical, grow and make our latest work even better than the one before that”.
Technique and style have a high priority in the pieces of Telmomiel. True craftsmanship is what they want to produce. They work separately on ideas for murals and come together with the sketches to see if combinations can be made. The result is usually very surrealistic, with attention to detail. They always work on the same piece together and are able to switch places when ever wanted or needed.
The creative duo built up their creative abilities from a young age. They came to know each other at the art academy in Rotterdam in 2007. At the time, Telmo was a talented young illustrator and designer. Miel spray painted walls for several years, practicing the art of graffiti. During that period, they started working together on walls and gradually went on to become the ambitious artistic duo they form today.
The duo has gained much recognition domestically as well as abroad. Partly because they are very productive as street artists. They visited places like Dubai, New York, Antwerp, Malta and Beirut to create out most stunning murals. Telmomiel’s work can be found in places like Dubai, New York, Antwerp, Malta, Hawaii, Los Angeles, Spain, Austria, and Beirut among others.
